Background

I am a medical doctor and public health specialist with over 15 years of experience in public health teaching, practice, and research. I hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics, a Master of Public Health and a Fellowship in Public Health Medicine.

I have taught at leading international Universities in the UK and Australia. I thoroughly enjoy and get great satisfaction from teaching. I firmly believe in the importance of public health and medical education in developing the future health workforce to address the biggest health challenges facing populations globally.

During my career I have worked across different health systems in a diverse range of organisational settings and countries. This includes hospitals, community health services, government, universities, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Medecins San Frontieres (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders including in complex humanitarian emergencies in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Turkey, and Afghanistan.  I use examples from my work experience to link real life health issues and programs to theoretical content covered in courses I teach. This aspect of my teaching has always been well received by students. I have been fortunate enough to receive nominations in the Students’ Association’s student-led Teaching Awards for the last 2 years, in the category Teacher of the Year.

I am currently Deputy Year 2 Director for the MBChB programme, tutor in Medical Education, and Teaching Fellow for the Master of Public Health (online).
