Background
Dr Cheikh is a socio-anthropologist specialised in Morocco (North Africa). Her area of expertise is youth, gender and sexuality in urban Morocco. Her work deals with the sociology of underclass culture, sexuality and intimacy in a national and regional context of hyper moralisation. She focuses on the transformation of Moroccan working-classes and the inter-class relations by looking at distinctive juvenile cultures. Her actual research deals with crime and cultures in crime among young men and women in the region of Kénitra (Morocco). She received her doctorate from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She studied anthropology at the Université de Provence (Aix-en-Provence) from where she received 2 Masters degrees (Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Master in the Arab, Muslim and Semitic World). She also received from Université de Provence three BAs (BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology, BA in Arab History, Literature and Linguistics, and BA in Spanish History, Literature and Linguistics) Women's studies - Youth cultures - Urban studies - Intimate economy - Sex Work /Prostitution - Money/Love/Sex - Crime - Delincuency
