Background
Leonor has a background in Clinical and Health Psychology. She graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2008. She completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology in 2010. Her PhD was awarded in 2015 and it was focused on Understanding adolescent adjustment to maternal cancer: A study of personal experiences and Psychosocial factors that promote adjustment. She worked as a research assistant in the Preparing for Life Evaluation project at UCD and in different projects as a post-doctoral researcher in the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre, University of Galway. Leonor completed a Higher Diploma in Data Analytics and Visualisation in 2021. In 2023 she worked as a Research Fellow at Queen's University Belfast with the project “Education Outcomes Linkage Dataset (EOL)” which is a longitudinal education dataset of post primary pupils aged 14+ in Northern Ireland. Leonor is currently Lecturer in Psychological Research Methods. Leonor completed a Fellowship with Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Campbell UK and Ireland. Her research interests are focused on children and families, chronic illness, bereavement and family support. She is also interested in research methods and research ethics.

Current research interests
Leonor has a background in Clinical and Health Psychology. Her work has been focused on researching and teaching research methods with children and adolescents. Leonor is a mixed method, multidisciplinary researcher focused on understanding, learning teaching and developing the area of participatory research methods with children and adolescents. Her research has been mainly focused on the impact of chronic illness in the family and recently illness related bereavement and death experiences. Interested in learning about research methods, Leonor completed a Higher Diploma in Data Analytics and Visualisation in 2021 which opened her world into the possibilities of including the use of technology in participatory health research with children and adolescents, an experience which has been compiled in the book released in 2025 “Technological Innovations in Participatory Health Research with Adolescents”. A critical, comprehensive and evidence-based guide for anyone interested in the potential of combining these elements to advance research with adolescents in an ethical way.Past research interests
