Background

Kirsty is currently the Head of the Research Strategy Team within Edinburgh Research Office. Previously, she served as the Senior Project Officer to the Vice Principal Research and Enterprise from 2023 to 2025, and as a Strategic Research Executive within the Strategic Research Development Team from 2018 to 2023. 

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, Kirsty worked as Research Development Advisor within the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University from 2016 to 2018, and as Research and Knowledge Exchange Data Manager within the Research Strategy and Innovation Office at the University of Glasgow from 2012-2016. Between 2008 and 2011, Kirsty worked as a Post-doctoral Researcher investigating the impact of Norse settlement and agriculture on the soils of southwest Greenland.

Qualifications

Kirsty holds a BA(Hons) in Geography and Archaeology, and an MSc in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Reconstruction from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Geoarchaeology from the University of Stirling. Kirsty is also a professionally qualified Coach (ACORN accredited Advanced Certificate in Coaching Practice, 2017) and is studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration.

I lead the Research Strategy Team in the Research Strategy, Development and Impact Directorate within Edinburgh Research Office. In my role, I leverage our team's diverse expertise, creativity, and collaborative spirit to advance the successful development, implementation, and evaluation of university research strategy.

I am also responsible for overseeing the University's Strategic Investment Plan and developing the new University Innovation Career Path.
