Background

Ikumi is a qualitative researcher with a strong focus on palliative and end-of-life care. She obtained her Doctoral Degree in medical anthropology from the University of Oxford. Her doctoral thesis, "Journey from Life to Death: An Anthropological Study of Cancer Patients in Japan," is based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork conducted over 11 months at a Palliative Care Unit in Japan.

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, Ikumi worked at the University of Cambridge as a member of the Palliative and End-of-Life Care in Cambridge (PELiCam) research group, and previously at the University of Southampton.
