Background
After completing my PhD at the University of Edinburgh School of GeoSciences in 2013, I worked across NGOs and academia, focusing on applying scientific evidence to environmental challenges and communicating this to policymakers and the public. My PhD researched issues surrounding the use of remote sensing for mapping forest cover change in Malawi, with regards to in-country sustainable forest management activities as well as the monitoring, reporting and verification requirements of REDD+. This technical experience has given me a thorough grounding in statistical analysis and carbon accounting at local, national and international levels. My research also allowed me to pursue my interests in developing innovative strategies for tackling our current environmental challenges, and looking at the gendered impacts of environmental issues.
I now serve as Head of Strategy for the £700 million Data Driven Innovation Programme, an economic development programme for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland Region, leading strategic planning, governance, and partnership development across a complex ecosystem of public, private and academic stakeholders. My work centres on building innovation ecosystems, shaping strategic international collaborations, and leveraging data-driven innovation to deliver inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
I bring expertise in service design, facilitation and participatory approaches to co-create effective, place-based solutions, particularly in areas such as smart cities, digital infrastructure and data for decision-making.
I am a Chartered Geographer (GIS) and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
