Background

Dr Duoduo Li has an extensive UK-based academic background in Translation and Interpreting. She holds an MA in Interpreting and Translation and an MSc in Translation Studies, and completed her PhD in Interpreting and Translation at the University of Stirling (2023). Her doctoral research bridges Interpreting and Translation Studies and Cognitive Psychology at the University of Stirling (Top 2 in Scotland for Psychology research impact, REF 2021), supported by cross-disciplinary supervision across language and psychology expertise.

Duoduo Li taught at the University of Strathclyde for five years (from 2019), and joined the University of Edinburgh in 2024. Alongside academia, she brings 11+ years of translation and conference interpreting experience across language service providers and freelance practice, covering business and trade conferences, professional forums, and other high-level contexts, including work for official visiting delegations to Scotland.

Research summary

Dr Duoduo Li’s research focuses on empirical studies in Interpreting and Translation, with particular interest in the cognitive processes.

Cognitive processes in simultaneous interpreting and sight translation. Cognitive load in interpreting and translation, with a focus on working memory. Interpreters’ and translators’ cognitive behaviours in task performance. Interdisciplinary approaches to interpreting and translation.
