Claire Cowie is a sociolinguist with a special interest in the effects of contact between English and other languages in India. For the past twenty years, together with students and colleagues she has worked on code-switching with English, English accents and dialects, in real life contexts in India, as well as in fiction, film, television and other media. She is part of a research community which explores the use of Scots and Scottish English in Edinburgh. She particularly enjoys supervising dissertations on diverse media in South and South-east Asia including Bollywood, K-pop and K-drama.
