Background
Left school at 18 in 1972 and trained as a Chartered Accountant. After a career of 45 years in the City, mainly in the equity markets, retired and went up to Oxford in 2017 as a history undergraduate. Graduated in 2020 and completed a Taught MA in Modern History at the University of Warwick in 2021. His MA dissertation was on the rise and fall of the Know Nothings (later the American Party) in the mid-1850s US. His PhD dissertation continues this theme by looking at the influence of Irish Catholic immigrants on New York City between 1840 and 1860.
he lives in the Cotswolds, has been a season ticket holder at Fulham FC for over forty years, is a member of the MCC and the England Rugby Travel Club.
