Thesis title: Evaluating the influence of Emotional Intelligence development and its potential benefits in youth football coaching

Background

Chiyuan is a dedicated researcher specialising in Emotional Intelligence, youth football coaching, and physical education at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on evaluating the value of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and its potential benefits in youth football coaching. Drawing from over a decade of experience as a youth football coach, he has observed that effective coaching extends beyond technical and tactical expertise, and its requires the ability to manage emotions, build positive relationship, and address the psychological and emotional needs of young athletes. These aspects align closely with core EI components such as emotional regulation, emotional appraisal, empathy, and social skills. 

Chiyuan holds a Master's in Sport Management from Loughborough University, where he conducted an analysis on parents' perceptions of the impact of the 'Four-Corners' model of player development in professional football youth academics in England. During his studies, he earned his UEFA B Licence through The FA and spent time to work as a professional development youth academy Goalkeeper Coach at Cambridge United Football Club. There, he collaborated with the outfield coaches to create and implement targeted training programs for goalkeepers within the youth development phase. Now, Chiyuan is a development youth academy goalkeeper coach at Peterborough United Football Club, where he continues to the technical and tactical development of young goalkeepers.
