Chenxi Yin (PhD student)

Thesis title: Meaningfulness within youth sport?

Background

Yin became a PhD student in October 2021 after completing an MSc in psychological studies at the University of Glasgow.

Yin was a badminton student-athlete from an early age. The uni-team he represented won Champion of the 2017 Hunan Province University Badminton Competition (provincial level) and Seventh Place in the 2018 Chinese University Badminton Competition (national level) (2013-2019). 

Also, Yin coached badminton in China from 2016 to 2020, and his coaching context included recreational clubs, and community programs to performance selection teams, especially in youth sports. Part of the students have become the main players in the region’s professional team and student-athletes in local schools (2016-2020).

In addition to athletic and coaching experience, Yin has played a pivotal role in sports administration. He served at the Changsha Badminton Association, where he managed volunteer coordination,  and referee training and development programs (2016-2019).

After years of enriching coaching and management experience, Yin pivoted towards academia. He joined the Institute of Psychology as a research assistant, focusing primarily on studying the impact of physical activity on cognitive interventions for the ageing population (2019 -2020).

Research summary

Based on his experience, he has a "unique" perspective on sports-related research. And he has a broad interest in any sports-related research. 

His PhD research is investigating "Meaningfulness in youth sport".
