Background

Charlene Kay has been working in cancer research for more than 10 years. She is currently undertaking a PhD focusing on lymph node metastases in breast cancer whilst also working part time as a Research Assistant in the Translational Oncology Research Group. Charlene was recently voted Scientist of the Week by students in the I’m A Scientist – Cancer Zone public engagement event.

Current research interests

Charlene is currently studying lymph node positive breast cancer. Lymph node metastases can, at times, be biologically quite different to the primary lesion in the breast, leading to therapy resistance and further metastatic spread.
