Background
I graduated from Dundee College of Education in 1984 with a Diploma in Primary Education. I then worked as a Class Teacher, Pupil Support Teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, for 15 years, before specialising in dyslexia.
Whilst living in England I completed the OCR Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties and worked as a local authority specialist dyslexia asessor and teacher for 6 years. I then went on to lead a local authority SpLD outreach service for a further 8 years; providing assessment, training , specialist teaching and resources to area primary schools and specialist provisions.
In 2011 I graduated with a Master of Education in Leading Teaching and Learning from Wolfson College ,Cambridge. My thesis focus was on ' Fascilitating the development of a structured and balanced group reading approach to meet the needs of lower attaining readers in KS1'. The outcome of the research project was successful and I was invited to share the devised programme with area schools and students from the OCR Level 5 and 7 courses run by Partners in Education. During this time I was also a part time tutor for Partners in Education on the OCR Level 5 SpLD course.
I moved back to Scotland in 2012 and worked full-time as a Pupil Support Teacher for two and a half years; a great opportunity to get back to the chalk face and really see what it was like to work within a Scottish school again.
In September 2015 I started working as a part-time Associate Tutor for Edinburgh University. I currently tutor on the 'Specific Learning Difficulties: Dyslexia 'and 'Autism Sectrum Disorder, Developmental Language Disorder and Dyslexia: an introduction' modules of the MSc Inclusive Education, both of which I continue to enjoyed very much. I am currently employed by a local authority as an Education Additional Support Officer - with a focus on all aspects of interrupted learning.
In January 2019 I was appointed as a board member to the Accreditation Board of the British Dyslexia Association
