Thesis title: Medical Informatics and Machine Learning for Patient Stratification and Personalised Prediction of Outcome and Clinical Events in Paediatric Critical Care

Background

First-year PhD student in the Precision Medicine Doctoral Training Program (DTP) at the University of Edinburgh, with co-supervision at the University of Glasgow.

Qualifications

BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics, University of Limerick (2024)

Research summary

Routine clinical practices generate vast amounts of data, particularly in paediatric intensive care units (PICU), where high resolution bedside monitoring data is continuously collected.  Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning offer the potential to explore this rich data and develop patient-centric approaches for paediatric critical care, ultimately enhancing clinical decision support systems, and supporting the development of hypotheses in clinical research.

Current research interests

Analysis of multi-parameter physiological data to predict key clinical events in PICU, along with the outcomes for critically brain-injured children.
