Research summary

My research combines interpersonal and intergroup perspectives, along with mixed methodologies, to understand (and often challenge) dominant norms and social scripts that underpin social inequalities, both in the context of work and close relationships. In one line of research, I examine inequalities related to gender, with a particular interest in how gender role norms and expectations can produce and perpetuate workplace and relational inequalities. In another line of research, I seek to challenge stigmatising stereotypes about single people and promote a more nuanced understanding of single people’s well-being and the intergroup and interpersonal factors that influence it.

Knowledge exchange

I regularly partner with government and organisations, including with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (Australia), to understand and address gender and intersectional inequalities across sectors. I am currently co-PI on a project, funded by the eSafety Commissioner of Australia, aimed at developing interventions to prevent technology-based abuse against women and gender diverse people across Australia.
