Background
Alex is the Head of Research Cultures for University of Edinburgh based in Edinburgh Research Office. Before taking up her current role Alex was Senior Research Strategy Manager at the Usher Institute in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine at University of Edinburgh between 2018-24.
Between 2012-18 Alex worked at Heriot-Watt University as Research Development Manager leading their central research office research development team, and as Research Administrator within their School of Engineering & Physical Sciences.
Alex worked for the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council as a Portfolio Manager and Senior Portfolio Manager between 2008-12, and returned to undertake a secondment as Head of Regional Engagement Scotland in 2022-23.
Qualifications
Alex holds an MEng in Product Design Engineering jointly from University of Glasgow and Glasgow School of Art.
Responsibilities & affiliations
Member of the Association of Research Managers & Administrators (ARMA) 2012 to present.
Project activity
Alex is the University of Edinburgh co-lead, with Professor Liz Baggs, for our Wellcome Trust funded InFrame Institutional Research Culture Funding.

Alex is Head of Research Cultures based in Edinburgh Research Office and working closely with the Vice-Principal Research & Innovation, and across the University with College offices, Schools and Professional Service departments to deliver the University Research Cultures action plan and improve research cultures across the organisation.
