Maria Schiza

Thesis title: Ekphrasis as Encounter, Practice, and Framework

Background

Maria Schiza is a writer and translator from Thessaloniki, Greece. She is currently reading for a Creative Writing PhD at the University of Edinburgh, researching the possibilities of encounter found through ekphrastic poetry. She has graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, followed by a master’s degree in Creative Writing from the University of Nottingham. Some of her recent publications include  the poem "Fishermen at Sea" in The Ekphrastic Review and the article "Asserting and Accompanying the Excluded Self: The Function of the Recorded Voice in Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape and Rockaby" in Forum, the University of Edinburgh's Postgraduate Journal of Culture and the Arts.

MA in Creative Writing (Distinction), University of Nottingham, England

BA Honours in English Language and Literature, Aristotle University, Greece
