Background
A recognised Specialist in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery, Kiterie is particularly interested in neurodegenerative disorders. Her main research focuses on Motor Neuron Diseases (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy). She is studying the molecular changes leading to neurodegeneration in these devastating diseases, with a particular focus on metabolism.
Kiterie graduated in 2005 from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (France), before undertaking rotating small animal internships at the National Veterinary School of Alfort (Paris) and at the University of Glasgow. She then moved into research at the University of Oxford where she completed her Ph.D. studying the role of creatine in the failing heart using magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy. She returned to the University of Glasgow in 2013 to complete a residency in neurology and neurosurgery, and became a specialist in 2016, before moving to Edinburgh as a Lecturer in 2017. She became a Senior Lecturer in 2020.
