Global Goals Jam September 2016
Join the first ever #GlobalGoalsJam in Edinburgh and become part of an exciting new event where teams around the world will design practical, actionable interventions to help achieve the Global Goals. Meet new people from the University and beyond, learn and practice design methods from MediaLAB Amsterdam, develop an idea that can make a difference locally and globally, and share your progress in real-time with other participants from Ghana to Moldova, Japan, Egypt and beyond. During the 2015 Social Good Summit, world leaders adopted the Sustainable Development Goals. In 109 locations around the world, people discussed these 17 Global Goals and what they would mean for their lives. Now it is time to move forward with concrete actions to achieve the goals. The United Nations Development Programme, MediaLAB Amsterdam, and the Energy Data for All project invite you to participate in this two-day event and apply your knowledge, skills and desire to learn to global efforts to realise the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global Goals Jam in Edinburgh will focus on Goals 7, 11 and 12:
- Affordable and Clean Energy
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Responsible Consumption and Production
Challenges related to these goals will be presented by a number of different organisations, and teams will also have the option to identify their own challenges. The Jam begins with a short social event on Friday evening to meet other participants, form teams and hear the challenges. From Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, teams will complete four design sprints, beginning with ideation and finishing with a prototype to present and share. Teams with promising prototypes will be connected to opportunities to develop the prototypes further and seek funding to support them.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Non-University participants are requested to make a small donation to help cover expenses.
