Background
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on lipid metabolism in small vessel disease and mentored by Professor Anna Williams and Professor Joanna Wardlaw. I graduated with a PhD from the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences, LMU München, where I researched lipid metabolism in remyelination. This built upon my MSc in Molecular Basis of Human Disease from the University of Crete, where I investigated lipid metabolism and autophagosomal cargo in the CNS, laying the foundation for my interest in the metabolic aspects of human disease. My journey in the field began with a BSc in Biology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where my thesis examined BMP6 polymorphism in sickle beta thalassemia. My previous research experience includes working as a research assistant at the University of Crete on next-generation sequencing genetic analysis in patients with neurological disorders, and undertaking a research internship at DZNE in Munich, investigating cholesterol esterification in demyelinating conditions.
