Innovative courses offer consent and bystander training
This September, the University of Edinburgh is piloting two new short courses on Consent and Active Bystander training delivered in an innovative way to incoming undergraduate, postgraduate and online students.
The courses, developed by GoodCourse, are delivered in a ‘TikTok’-style format and take just four minutes to complete. They also include links to relevant University services and resources. They are being shared with students via text message and email.
The Consent Matters course addresses how to better communicate with partners, offers tips on how to be more open and aims to ensure students stay safe. The Active Bystander course looks at speaking up and how members of the University community can recognise problematic situations and how best to support others.
This innovative way of delivering these courses allows us to take on a serious issue in a quick and accessible format. The courses are one of the many initiatives the University is working on to ensure our campuses are safe and inclusive environments and create stronger and safer communities for everyone.
These courses are available to new students. There are also more detailed courses available for staff on consent and harassment, which can be accessed below.
*Please note that the links to the courses above expire after a number of weeks so if you have difficulty accessing them please contact katrina.castle@ed.ac.uk.
