Biography

Background

I am an experienced leader in research support. Prior to January 2025 when I took up my current role, I was Head of Research Funding at the University of Edinburgh since 2022. Previously Senior Research Facilitator and Associate Director of Research Coordination for the Built Environment, Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences Faculties at UCL, I have undertaken secondments at EPSRC and as a Business Partner for UCL Research and Innovation Services. My undergraduate degree and short research career were hosted by the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Newcastle University, where I also project managed an EU Aid Cooperation funded international project. Research support is a field full of committed and super smart individuals and teams, and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from so many.

I am Director for the Research Strategy, Development and Impact Directorate. In my role I work with the component teams to ensure the University is ideally placed to capitalise on strategic opportunities.  Drawing on horizon scanning and in collaboration with University and College Leads, we develop, implement and take overall responsibility for the delivery of initiatives in support of the University's Research and Innovation Strategy. We catalyse and deliver key activities to enhance research development, performance and impact, underpinning Edinburgh’s place at the forefront of the sector. We work externally with key funders and partners in the UK and internationally to amplify Edinburgh's research connections and influence. Internally we work in partnership with researchers, the Colleges, Edinburgh Innovations, Edinburgh Global, Communications & Marketing and Development & Alumni to ensure a joined-up approach to achieving strategic research and innovation goals.
